LOTE (Auslan)

LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH (LOTE) - AUSTRALIAN SIGN LANGUAGE (Auslan):

The LOTE subject available at Exford is Australian Sign Language (Auslan).  Auslan is a recognised non-verbal language and our students develop knowledge of signing individual letters, knowing key words and expressions and progressing to being able to hold conversations in Auslan.

A feature of our end of year concert is a performance by our senior students signing to a song they select.

Each year,  our Junior School Council ran a fundraising to support a society which supports the families of hearing-impaired students - Loud Shirt Day (see Special Days) was a great success and our JSC has committed to supporting it again each year.

One of the most important elements of our students learning Auslan, is the understanding and empathy it helps them to develop in thinking about what life without hearing would be like.
